The original movie, titled American Pie was an enormous and surprise hit back in 1999 and as usual, brought on a sequel, then another, then another! Now we find the American Reunion to be the forth in a successful franchise of movies that revolve around a high school group of friends and lovers. The reunion refers to their 10th high school reunion and for those of us who actually attended our high school reunions it means a time to pleasantly look back and also a time to laugh at some of the results that the ravages of time have bestowed on a few who seemed destined for greatness back ten or twenty years ago. ast Great Falls High School is the scene of the class of 1999's tenth reunion. Of course it will be 2012 before the film shows up in theaters but never mind the time discrepancy because it really doesn't matter much. Each member of this group of young adults now has actual lives, families, and commitments they never thought they'd have when still in school. All of the original cast members have returned including Jason Biggs, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein, and Eddie Kaye Thomas. Most of them bring along a significant other to show off and discuss their careers, families, and compare their success. Typical (and boring) high school reunion conversations.
Back when World War I was about to begin so was an odd friendship between Psychiatrist Sigmund Freud and a young fledgling shrink, Carl Jung. There is also a beautiful woman that creates conflicts between the two men and also the fact that psychoanalysis is in its formative years. This combination makes for some rather dangerous methods of treating mental patients and those who can't quite cope with society. Canadian director David Cronenberg (The Brood, Scanners) may be somewhat out of his element with this story because it's more talky than his usual action packed films. Starring Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings series) as Freud, Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds, Fish Tank) as Jung, and Keira Knightley (Atonement, Pirates of the Caribbean series) as the beautiful Sabina Spielrein, the woman who comes between Jung and Freud. She eventually became a successful therapist in her own right. Considered a historical film, A Dangerous Method deals with what happened back when psychotherapy was in its infancy and how psychiatrists learned how to best help those with mental problems.
The first 3D film directed by the dependable director Martin Scorsese, it is also his first "family" film. Hugo Cabret is about an orphan boy who lives within the walls of a train station in Paris. He has lived there secretly since the loss of his father recently and when he discovers an automaton takes it to a toy shop to find out more about it. The toy shop owner, a cold hearted sullen man, Papa Georges (played by Academy Award Winner Ben Kingsley) and a girl named Isabelle (Chloe Grace Moretz) are along for a wild ride of adventure and intrigue with Hugo. They work together trying to find out how and why Hugo's father has disappeared. There is a heart shaped key that may hold the information Hugo needs but it will take some digging to find out what he wants to know.irected by Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, The Aviator) and based on a book written by Brian Selznick from a novel based on his children's book titled The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Hugo is produced by Scorsese and Johnny Depp. Young Hugo is played by up and coming English actor Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Merlin).
Based on true to life events, The Texas Killing Fields are found near a small town in Texas. Seems their mutilated bodies keep popping up in nearby marshy waters after their killer dumps them off, like trash.nce the detectives are hot on the trail of a suspect they suddenly find the tables turned and the killer apparently after them. Leaving clues as teasers, the murderer now seems to be keeping one step ahead. Southeast Texas was the location for some grizzly murders along Interstate 45 which inspired a book when then inspired this movie with a top quality cast.am Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar) is Detective Michael "Mike" Sounder, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Accidental Husband) is New York City detective transplanted to Texas, Brian Heigh, and Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life, Jolene) portrays Pam Stall, a detective who works along side the Texas cops who work diligently to track down the killer before he strikes again.
Bankers were in an absolute panic but it never showed on their faces or in their actions, at least not publicly. On one day at the early beginning of the financial crisis that began in 2008 we find there is no Gordon Gekko to keep us informed as to what was actually happening but in the boardrooms there was activity akin to a super earthquake taking place. How and why the events to follow came to be may be merely speculation but for those who lived through it, and survived it, Margin Call is just about as good a representation to be found. The extremely talented actor Kevin Spacey (Beyond the Sea, American Beauty) stars as Sam Rogers, Paul Bettany (Iron Man, A Beautiful Mind) is Will Emerson, Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves, Battlestar Galactica) portrays Mary Rogers, and Demi Moore (Ghost, Indecent Proposal) is Sarah Robertson.his film is more about human foibles than about banking in general and depicts how tragic money matters can be when we lose what we have become dependent on. The movie makers involved here strive to keep it real and not over dramatize the situation.
As in all the fairy tale versions of this classic we find a beautiful young and desirable woman who sleeps, deeply and for long periods. The erotic version seen here in this 2011 Australian film is oddly filled with intimate encounters but strangely enough, no actual sex involved. Seems like the Sleeping Beauty named Lucy, who is played by Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, The Uninvited), is a young woman who evidently hates men enough to pick her lovers simply by a toss of a coin. She is consensually drugged with sleep medications that put her out for long periods of time, and with a wide assortment of much older men. She evidently is never actually "penetrated" however and this seems to make the audience edgy, wondering just what is going to happen and if ever anything even will, because after all, this is not supposed to be a porn film.he story is definitely told from a modern perspective and that may not work with many who come to see a classic fairy tale story, so just be forewarned.lso starring in Sleeping Beauty are Rachael Blake playing Clara, Ewen Leslie as Birdman, Mirrah Foulkes as Sophie, and Michael Dorman as Cook.
Dubbed a psychological thriller, the movie Trespass provides a look into the life of a diamond salesman who discovers he is the victim of extortionists who are after his diamonds. After a home invasion in which Kyle and Sarah Miller are held hostage in their beautiful home, there are lots of plot twists and turns that keep viewers guessing until the end. Kyle Miller (played by Nicholas Cage from Raising Arizona, Gone in 60 Seconds) is a flashy fast talking salesman who makes millions and spends it quickly while never paying his taxes or paying much attention to his beautiful wife, Sarah (played by Nicole Kidman from Eyes Wide Shut, Bewitched). Directed by Joel Schumacher (Batman movies, St. Elmo's Fire). s the planned robbery of the Miller's safe unravels we see that Kyle (Cage) is not about to part with his precious diamonds even if it means giving up his wife and even his daughter. With each participant playing "mind games" with each other, and no one willing to concede, the stand off escalates until the finale. The star of this film just may be the mansion these folks live in!
The 2011 movie Red State may sound like a political thriller but it's far from that! You see there is this religious cult called the Five Points Church, led by a fanatical preacher Abin Cooper that protests at funerals (no not that group) and have recently been under investigation by the ATF for suspicious activity. The funerals are primarily for gay individuals who have been murdered locally, leading the local sheriff to investigate the leader of this highly controversial religious clan as a possible suspect. Preacher Cooper (played by Michael Parks from Then Came Bronson, From Dusk Till Dawn) and his wife Sarah (played ably by Melissa Leo from Homicide: Life on the Streets, Righteous Kill) seem to get their kicks from trapping, then executing young men, particularly those who appear to be gay. While Sarah Cooper lures the young men with promises of sexual favors, the couple then entraps them and ties them onto a cross with plastic wrap. The targets for their insane games are easily found on internet chat rooms and once they are murdered there will be funerals to which the preacher Cooper will delight in protesting! Business is good at the Five Points Church. Also starring are John Goodman, Stephen Root, and Kevin Pollak.
When they combine lies, murder, date rape, mysterious parenthood, and gender confusion in a movie it's generally considered to be a melodrama. The Skin I Live In takes it to another level and turns physical improvements into some horrific experiments gone awry. Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) is a plastic surgeon who attempts to cultivate a new human skin that is impervious to burns. His wife died 12 years back after severe burns led her to commit suicide. His work thus far has only been on mice but he needs a human "guinea pig" to insure his efforts work. Here is where the horror begins! eems the good doctor has a female captive who he plans on using to test his newly developed skin. His servant, Marilia helps keep the woman under control but when her son, Zeca commits a robbery commits robbery and asks mom to hide him a few days, he discovers the captive woman and rapes her. Upon Dr. Ledgard's return he kills Zeca when he finds him raping his captive. We witness more mayhem including sexual reassignment, rapes, suicides, and murders. Quite a price to pay for fire proof skin!tarring Antonio Banderas (Homeland Security, Zorro) is Dr. Ledgard, Roberto ГЃlamo is Zeca, and Marisa Paredes is Marilia.
