Whenever you can gather Oscar winner Oliver Stone (director & co-writer) along with John Travolta, Uma Therman, Salma Hayek, and Benicio del Toro plus additional high quality talent together and put them all to work in an action film it just can't get any better than that!avages is definitely a crime thriller with plenty of action and intrigue. Throw in a Hippie named Ophelia, or "O" for short played by Blake Lively (Green Lantern, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and her marijuana growing Laguna Beach boyfriends Chon, a former Navy SEAL played by Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, The Bang Bang Club) and Ben, a Berkeley grad (Aaron Johnson from Albert Nobbs, Shanghai Nights). When "O" is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel you can see how things could get complicated! John Travolta is a DEA agent hot on the trail of the cartel members when he too gets caught up in the intrigue. Uma Thurman is the mother of Ophelia or "O", desperate to find her daughter. Ransom requires the grass growers to give up all profits they've made the past five year but revenge is a sweeter deal.
Creator of Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad! Scream Queen Jessica Leigh Stroup (October Road, Prom Night) is a co-worker of Lori's. ohn has a teddy bear named Ted that magically comes to life as he always imagined it could. Romance finds John when he meets Lori, and the lifelong friendship between Ted and John turns into a disaster because the teddy bear refuses to "grow up". Although this film sounds cutsie it's not for kids due to language, drug use, and plenty of crude sexual comments and content. Enjoy it for what it is…. a cartoon come to life and just played for fun.
Actually the film as translated from a Douglas Kennedy book of the same title works exceedingly well. The Woman in the Fifth stars Ethan Hawke (Brooklyn's Finest, Daybreakers) as the writer Tom Ricks. Ricks moved to Paris to be near his daughter but falls into hard times and needs work to get him by the writer's block he developed. Soon he becomes enraptured by a French beauty by the name of Margit and his life becomes a bit more interesting.o-starring Kristin Scott Thomas (Sarah's Key, The Other Boleyn Girl) as Margit, Joanna Kulig (Time of Honor, Janosik: A True Story) as Ania, Geoffrey Carey (Glenn The Flying Robot, The Actress' Ball) as Laurent, and Delphine Chuillot (Mozart's Sister, Silent Voice) as Nathalie. When Ricks life is turned upside down in Paris, he is helped by a French Arab fellow who gives him a job as a security agent although his passion is writing and making amends with his daughter and estranged wife. Apparently this story's writer, Douglas Kennedy is out to prove it's always darkest before the storm, at least in Paris.
With an invasion from somewhere from outer space in progress, we humans find ourselves being taken over, one by one, by some form of alien beings. While they invade our planet and take over the minds of everyone they come into contact with a few manage to remain "wild and free". Melanie Stryder, played by Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones) attempts to hold out but succumbs to an alien named Wanderer. Wanderer has been warned about possession of human bodies and the consequences involved such as mood changes, vivid memories from that human's past life, and an entire gamut of emotions they have never experienced where they came from. When Melanie refuses to yield her mind to the alien they struggle for what may be the last remaining human being on planet Earth.lso starring William Hurt (The Big Chill, Kiss of the Spider Woman) as Melanie's eccentric uncle Jebediah Stryder, Diane Kruger (National Treasure, Inhale) is one of the mind stealing alien "souls", and Jake Abel (I Am Number Four, The Lovely Bones) is a rebellious human who wants to kill the aliens as quickly as he can find them.
The dramatic storyline of "People Like Us" tells us about unfortunate broke salesman who is suddenly faced the bad news about his father and the necessity to deliver 150 grands to his sister he has never knew. He feels self-confident enough to convince her to let him left the money for himself, but very soon he realizes the futility of his life when he meets lonesome mother struggling for more significant needs than he could even imagine. The film was directed by Alex Kurtzman, who is better known as producer of action-packed movies like Star Trek and Cowboys & Aliens. People Like Us is his debut as director, and it's essential that this movie is a low budgeted one. However, it does not mean that something is wrong with this film. Awesome directional skills of Kurtzman multiplied on perfect assembly of cast and heart-touching screenplay (co-written by Alex too) resulted in must-see masterpiece equally standing among his other works as producer like Transformers Prime, Exit Strategy, Exit Strategy, Hawaii Five-0, Fringe. But, let's go back to the cast: beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer (Dark Shadows, Stardust) as Lillian is accompanied by Elizabeth Banks and charming Olivia Wilde (In Time, Tron: Legacy) as Hanna. The "downshifting" salesman is portrayed by Chris Pine, who is well known for his roles in latest Star Treks and very funny dramcom This Means War.
Premiered at Sundance in January 2012 as the Colin Trevorrow's directional debut, "Safety Not Guaranteed" is a not-a-typical indie movie deserving wider audience than the common festival "beau monde" is capable to propose. The movie storyline begins with a mysterious advertisement in the local newspaper aimed to recruit a companion to travel in time. As the ad states, the candidate have to bring all his weapons and expect the journey on terms which would not guarantee any safety. Also intriguing is the fact that the ad's author claims that he traveled in time once. "And you have to stop here if you're expecting to watch some easy sci-fi comedy about time traveling, because this movie is not exactly what you think about. The time travel in its literally meaning takes very insignificant part of film's plot. The movie is more about traveling in our hearts and times of our lives rather than about comedic situations that fall in the unfortunate time travelers. "But not be too upset, the lack of time travel entertainment will be more than offset by the "near perfect" chemistry of the film's cast. And, of course, as it's an indie romcom you'll not find here a stellar "all-celebs-at-once" set, but a perfectly combined synergy of characters. afety Not Guaranteed features both efficient and charming cast that makes definitely most of the movie. Let's start with Aubrey Plaza (supporting roles as April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation and The Princess in Troopers) who plays a woman falling in love so flawless that it would be almost undoubtedly considered as her breakout role leading to "Big Hollywood Movies". Mark Duplass portrays Kenneth Calloway, the peculiar ad's owner and Jake M. Johnson (you may remember him as Jesus in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) plays as a smug writer Jeff Schwensen. Another leading role of Belinda St. Sing was achieved by Kristen Bell (you may know her as Chloe for Sceam 4 and Nikki from Burlesque). As well you will see beautiful Karan Soni and Mary Lynn Rajskub in this movie… and, you may be surprised that the Safety Not Guaranteed storyline was inspired by a real life ad placed by a real author, John Silveira, who have attended the Sundance Film Festival and distinctively did not look crazy.
Long title but somewhat short minded concept that seeks to show what might be best to do if, and when, the world comes to an end as we know it. Everyone knows the world will be coming to an abrupt end one of these days, probably sooner than later at the rate it's going now. But who's to say exactly how we should best spend our remaining days and hours? To each his own! Will romance be the goal and the ultimate end for dorky guys who salivate over cool chicks with whom they would otherwise never stand a snowballs chance with? Who would go to work and put in the best they can if the end is inevitably near? Why bother to even begin to try to impress others when it doesn't matter anyhow? Steve Carell (Crazy Stupid Love, The Office) is Dodge, a neighbor and friend of Penny (Keira Knightley from Atonement, Silk). The two of them team up after Dodge's wife runs off in a state of panic (who knows how we'll react?). They are in search of Dodge's high school sweetheart even though Penny severely cramps his style. Also starring are Patton Oswalt, Gillian Jacobs, and Connie Britton.
Total Recall of 2012 is the good news for those who read the "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale", the book written by the drug addicted writer Philip K. Dick and liked it. Why? Because it's much more close to the original than the same name movie released in 1990 which remake the new Total Recall is supposed to be. That is way it's more correct to call this Recall the new version, not the remake: we will not see any flights to Mars here. But more action packed scenes are guaranteed, thanks to the Len Wiseman who previously directed the Underworld trilogy and Live Free or Die Hard. The story begins in New Asia, the city in fascist far future where two superstates fights to take control over the Earth: Euroamerica and New Shanghai. The average worker Douglas Quaida (Colin Farrell) awakes in his bed and realizes that he is a spy. But which side he serves? He has no idea. The only link to recall his memory is the young prostitute Melina played by Jessica Biel (New Year's Eve, Playing the Field, The Tall Man). But it seems like she is not just "fille de joie". Very soon it becomes clear that she is a major part of rebel union teamed to change the political system in Euroamerica and aimed to destroy the main antagonist Vilos Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) the President of the corrupted government of Euroamerica.
Sound of My Voice represents the new trend in indie films industry which could be described as "mass indie movie". In effort to bring Sound of My Voice to mass audience Fox Searchlight launched extremely fierce viral campaign in the web. Started with 12 minutes length opening sequence, which you can watch online by clicking the "Watch the first 12 minutes of Sound of My Voice online", this campaign was aimed to make lots of money from the movie initially purposed for specific narrow audience. The psycho-drama film is arranged as hypnotizing documentary journey to the very heart of strange cult. The investigation organized by young couple Peter (Christopher Denham: Charlie Wilson's War, Duplicity) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius: 500 Days of Summer, CSI TV series) in pursuit of unmasking the charlatan turned out in something unexpected while they encounter more and more questions arising about the true nature of the "evil" cult and its leader Maggie (Brit Marling: Another Earth, Community TV series).
The consequences of the disaster that is equal to the explosion of 400 nuclear bombs come on the big screens, thanks to inexhaustible talent Bradley Parker, director who has created the Paranormal Activity. This time the master of low budget, but super-scary films show us the Chernobyl Diaries. The story takes place in Pripyat` (Ukraine) – the ghost town, deserted and abandoned 25 years ago due to horrible Chernobyl Disaster. In pursuit of greater thrill a group of young people comes to this dead city starred by Jesse McCartney (Young Justice and CSI TV series), Jonathan Sadowski ($ # *! My Dad Says and American Dream TV series), Olivia Dudley (CSI and NCIS) and Nathan Phillips (Summer Coda and Quit). At first it seems that the city is inhabited, but the first doubts about it no one leaves the characters of the movie right next to notice of something that looks like a human being in the window of one of the faceless dilapidated apartment buildings. Since then, their adventure turns into the real Fallout, at best, and the worst sense of this epic game. And the Bradley Parker has once again gets the laurels of the winner - the creator of the really scary movie.
