Fire Country is a CBS firefighting drama co-created by and starring Max Thieriot, and one of the most-watched scripted series on American broadcast television. It follows Bobby Bode Donovan, a young convict who joins a prison release program that places incarcerated firefighters on the front lines of Northern California's wildfires in exchange for a shot at reducing their sentences.
Bode is assigned to work in Edgewater, his small hometown, where he must face the family and community he left behind as he fights alongside the local Cal Fire crew. The ensemble includes Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Billy Burke and Jordan Calloway, and the series balances high-stakes rescue set pieces with the family melodrama and small-town tensions at its emotional core.
A breakout hit for CBS, Fire Country consistently ranks among the top-rated scripted series on American broadcast television and has spawned an expanding franchise of spin-offs. Its blend of procedural firefighting action and soapy family drama has made it a dependable ratings anchor across multiple seasons. It streams on Paramount+.
X-Men '97 is the triumphant continuation of the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series that defined a generation's understanding of Marvel's mutant heroes, picking up precisely where the original 1997 finale left off with the same visual aesthetic, the same characters, and an emotional maturity that the original's younger audience couldn't fully appreciate. The series reunites surviving members of the original creative team with a new generation of writers and directors, creating a work that honours its source material while taking dramatic risks that shocked even longtime fans. Creator Beau DeMayo committed to exploring the full moral and political complexity of the X-Men's metaphor for marginalized communities with uncompromising honesty.
The show's third episode became one of the most talked-about pieces of animation in years — a gut-wrenching examination of racial violence against mutantkind that many critics described as the most powerful twenty-two minutes of television of 2024 regardless of format or genre. The writing team refused to soften the team's conflicts or their enemies' cruelty in ways that might make the material more comfortable for casual viewers, resulting in a series that feels genuinely consequential rather than merely nostalgic.
X-Men '97 won multiple Emmy Awards including Outstanding Animated Program, becoming one of the most critically decorated animated productions of its year and renewing enthusiasm for a franchise that had struggled in live-action form. It demonstrated definitively that animation can be the most uncompromising format for storytelling when creators are given the freedom to pursue their vision without compromise. It streams exclusively on Disney+.
Doctor Odyssey is Ryan Murphy's gleefully entertaining medical drama set aboard the most extravagant cruise ship in the world, following Dr. Max, played with easy charm by Joshua Jackson, as he navigates medical crises, romantic entanglements, and logistical nightmares that arise when thousands of passengers are sealed together on the high seas. The series combines the ensemble warmth of Grey's Anatomy with the heightened, knowing campiness that defines Murphy's most beloved work, resulting in a show that is simultaneously preposterous and thoroughly irresistible.
Don Johnson plays the ship's magnanimous captain with the kind of lived-in authority only genuine screen veterans can project, while Philippa Soo and Sean Teale complete the central triangle as two nurses caught in the gravitational pull of Dr. Max's complicated personal life. Murphy and his writers use the self-contained world of the ship as a pressure cooker for human drama — each episode delivering at least one medical emergency, one emotional revelation, and one spectacular setting that makes the luxury cruise feel like the most absurdly glamorous workplace ever imagined.
Doctor Odyssey premiered on ABC in September 2024 and became one of the network's biggest hits in years, driven by word-of-mouth enthusiasm and the kind of compulsive, joyful viewing energy that streaming-era television rarely generates for broadcast. The show's warm, unabashedly fun tone was celebrated as a corrective to the relentless grimness that had dominated prestige television, and it streams on Hulu for those who missed its ABC run.

Manhunt is Apple TV+'s gripping limited series dramatizing the seventeen-day hunt for John Wilkes Booth following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln in April 1865. Based on James L. Swanson's bestselling historical account, the series centers on Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's formidable Secretary of War, played with fierce intelligence and moral urgency by Tobias Menzies. Stanton's determination to bring Booth to justice — and to protect the fragile future of the American republic in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War — drives a narrative that is equal parts thriller, historical drama, and character study of a man operating at the intersection of grief and duty.
The series devotes considerable attention to the political complexity surrounding Booth's act — his Confederate sympathies, his network of co-conspirators, and the forces within the federal government that either tolerated or actively enabled the conditions that made the assassination possible. Creator Monica Beletsky and director Carl Franklin bring the Reconstruction period to vivid, morally complicated life, presenting an America at a genuine crossroads whose outcome was never as inevitable as history makes it seem. Anthony Boyle plays the charismatic and chilling John Wilkes Booth with one of the most compelling portrayals of the infamous figure in any medium.
Manhunt premiered to widespread critical acclaim in March 2024, with particular praise directed at Menzies' performance and the series' willingness to frame the Lincoln assassination as the opening act of a sustained political conspiracy. The show earned Emmy nominations and renewed conversation about the Reconstruction era as one of American history's most consequential and underexplored chapters. It streams exclusively on Apple TV+.
Outer Range returns for a second season that deepens the mysteries of the Abbott ranch and the impossible void that has consumed the Abbotts' lives. Josh Brolin delivers another towering performance as Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher whose discovery of a bottomless pit on his land has unravelled not just his family but the fabric of time itself. Season 2 expands the show's temporal scope dramatically, pulling characters across different eras and forcing confrontations between past and future selves that carry genuine emotional devastation. Creator Brian Watkins pushes the series' blend of Western mythology, existential dread, and hard science fiction into bolder territory, delivering one of Prime Video's most ambitious and singular dramatic offerings.
The Night Agent returns for its third season with Peter Sutherland deeper inside the machinery of American intelligence than he ever intended to be. Gabriel Basso reprises his role as the relentless FBI agent turned Night Action operative, now operating at the highest levels of a government that cannot decide whether he is its greatest asset or its most dangerous liability. Season 3 expands the show's globe-spanning scope with new allies, new threats, and conspiracies that reach into the very institutions Sutherland has sworn to protect. Creator Shawn Ryan continues to refine the series' formula of propulsive plotting, moral complexity, and the kind of tension that makes it physically impossible to watch just one episode.
Alien: Earth is the television expansion of one of cinema's most iconic science fiction franchises, set in the year 2120 as a spacecraft crashes on Earth carrying a deadly cargo that humanity is wholly unprepared to face. Sydney Chandler leads the ensemble as Wendy, a synthetic human grappling with questions of identity and survival as Xenomorphs are unleashed on the planet for the first time. Showrunner Noah Hawley brings his precise, novelistic approach to the material, grounding the franchise's cosmic horror in intimate human stakes while expanding the mythology in directions even longtime fans will not anticipate. The series delivers the dread, the darkness, and the visceral alien terror the franchise demands while finding entirely new ways to make the familiar terrifying again.
Grotesquerie is Ryan Murphy's most unsettling creation yet — a deeply disturbing crime thriller that blurs the boundary between faith and horror with relentless, escalating dread. Niecy Nash-Betts stars as Detective Lois Tryon, a veteran cop investigating a series of gruesome crime scenes that seem staged as grotesque religious tableaux. When a mysterious nun named Sister Megan, played with otherworldly intensity by Micaela Diamond, arrives claiming divine guidance, Lois finds herself drawn into a partnership that defies every rational instinct she possesses. As the cases grow more elaborate and personal, the series spirals into a meditation on belief, corruption, and the terrifying things people do in the name of something greater than themselves.
Dying for Sex is a bold, emotionally shattering limited series based on the true story of Molly, a woman who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis and decides to spend her remaining time pursuing sexual freedom and radical self-discovery. Michelle Williams delivers a performance of stunning vulnerability and fierce humor as Molly, joined by Jenny Slate as her unflinching best friend Nikki, who chronicles every adventure for a podcast that becomes an unlikely phenomenon. Created by Kim Rosenstock and adapted from the award-winning podcast, the series refuses to be a conventional illness narrative — it is a raucous, tender, deeply human exploration of desire, friendship, and what it means to truly live on your own terms before you run out of time.
Only Murders in the Building is a gleefully clever mystery comedy on Hulu set in the Arconia, a fictional luxury apartment building on New York City’s Upper West Side. Three unlikely neighbors — a faded true crime TV star, a failed Broadway director, and a guarded young artist — bond over their shared obsession with true crime podcasts and find themselves investigating a murder in their own building, which they document as a podcast of their own.
The chemistry between Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez is the show’s irresistible engine, combining the effortless comic timing of two legends with Gomez’s unexpectedly deft deadpan. The series layers genuine mystery plotting with warmly observed character work and an affectionate portrait of New York City’s apartment-building community, where strangers share walls for years without ever truly knowing each other.
Now in its fourth season, Only Murders in the Building has established itself as one of Hulu’s crown jewels, regularly attracting high-profile guest stars — including Cara Delevingne, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, and Eva Longoria — and maintaining the playful self-awareness that made it an instant hit. It is a rare series that has grown richer and more confident with each passing season.
Abbott Elementary is a warm-hearted, sharply written mockumentary comedy set in a chronically underfunded Philadelphia public school, following an idealistic second-grade teacher named Janine Teagues and her eccentric colleagues as they navigate the daily chaos of American public education. Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, the show became an instant cultural phenomenon upon its 2021 premiere, earning comparisons to the early seasons of The Office while carving out a deeply distinct identity of its own.
The ensemble — which includes Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and William Stanford Davis — works with near-perfect comic chemistry, generating both absurdist workplace humor and genuine emotional warmth. The show never condescends to its characters or their circumstances, treating the struggle to educate children in a broken system with equal parts comedy and deep respect.
Abbott Elementary has become one of broadcast television’s biggest critical and commercial hits in years, winning multiple Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series. Quinta Brunson’s Emmy win for Outstanding Writing made her only the third Black woman to win in that category, a milestone that resonated far beyond the television industry.
