Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is the second installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's Netflix true-crime anthology, following their Emmy-winning Dahmer season. The nine-episode series dramatizes the 1989 shotgun killings of entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty by their sons Lyle and Erik, and the sensational trials that gripped America through the 1990s.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch star as Lyle and Erik, with Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny as their parents Jose and Kitty. The series moves between the brothers' privileged Beverly Hills upbringing, their allegations of lifelong abuse, and the courtroom spectacle that split public opinion, deliberately presenting competing and sometimes contradictory versions of what really happened inside the family.
The series debuted in September 2024 and became one of Netflix's most-watched titles of the year, topping the platform's English-language chart for weeks. Its release reignited public debate over the Menendez case and is widely credited with contributing to renewed legal scrutiny of the brothers' convictions, even as the real Erik Menendez publicly condemned the show as inaccurate and unfair. It streams on Netflix.
