Interesting facts

Jacob Elordi suffered second-degree burns while filming when he accidentally pressed against a hot brass doorknob on set, one of several physically demanding moments during the roughly fifty-day shoot.

Emerald Fennell shot the film on 35mm and VistaVision and said she wanted to recreate the feeling of a teenage girl reading the novel for the very first time, leaning into passion and obsession over period restraint.

Warner Bros. won the distribution rights after a fierce bidding war, reportedly beating a far larger Netflix offer because the studio committed to a full theatrical release; the finished film drew a divisive B CinemaScore from opening-night audiences.

Description

Wuthering Heights is a 2026 gothic romance written and directed by Emerald Fennell, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, working from Emily Brontë's 1847 novel. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in late January 2026 before opening wide on Valentine's Day weekend, positioned as a lush, provocative reinvention of one of English literature's most enduring tragedies.

Margot Robbie stars as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the foundling whose all-consuming bond with Cathy curdles into obsession and revenge across the windswept Yorkshire moors. Hong Chau appears as the housekeeper Nelly Dean, with Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton and Alison Oliver as Isabella, as class, jealousy and thwarted desire tear two families apart over a generation.

Fennell shoots the material with the heightened, sensual style that has become her signature, splitting critics down the middle even as audiences turned out: the film grossed more than $240 million worldwide against an $80 million budget. Reviews were sharply divided over how its explicit, contemporary sensibility served Brontë's story, but few disputed its visual ambition. It is streaming on HBO Max.
