Marty Supreme

Description

Marty Supreme is a sports comedy-drama directed by Josh Safdie — his first feature without brother Benny Safdie — and co-written with Ronald Bronstein. Timothée Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a brash, obsessive young table-tennis player in 1950s New York who is convinced he is destined for greatness and will do almost anything to prove it. The film is loosely inspired by the memoir of real-life ping-pong hustler and showman Marty Reisman, reimagining his world of smoky clubs, side bets, and outsized ambition.

Chalamet is surrounded by an eclectic ensemble that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, musician Tyler, the Creator, filmmaker Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, giving the film the jittery, lived-in texture that defines Safdie's work. As Marty chases tournaments, money, and reinvention, the movie channels the propulsive energy and anxious comedy of the Safdies' earlier Uncut Gems while making room for a strange, romantic streak all its own.

Released by A24 on Christmas Day 2025 after a premiere at the New York Film Festival, Marty Supreme became both a commercial and critical hit, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide and earning a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Chalamet's live-wire performance won him Golden Globe and Critics' Choice awards and anchored a haul of nine Academy Award nominations. It streams on HBO Max.
