Description

Bugonia is a pitch-black science-fiction thriller from director Yorgos Lanthimos, marking his fourth collaboration with Emma Stone after The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness. An English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan's cult 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, the movie was adapted by screenwriter Will Tracy, whose credits include Succession and The Menu, and it channels Lanthimos's gift for unsettling, deadpan menace into a story that is equal parts hostage thriller, conspiracy satire, and cosmic horror.

Emma Stone plays Michelle Fuller, the poised and powerful chief executive of a pharmaceutical company. Jesse Plemons is Teddy, a troubled, conspiracy-obsessed beekeeper who, along with his impressionable younger cousin, becomes convinced that Michelle is an extraterrestrial sent to destroy humanity. The pair abducts her and holds her captive in a basement, demanding she make contact with her home planet, and the film tightens into a claustrophobic battle of wills in which the audience is never quite sure who, if anyone, is telling the truth.

Premiering at the Venice Film Festival to a rapturous standing ovation and released by Focus Features, Bugonia drew strong reviews for its tonal daring, its escalating dread, and the ferocious central performances of Stone and Plemons. Provocative, funny, and deeply strange, it is one of the most singular studio films of the year and is now streaming on Peacock.

Uncommon intelligence and inhuman strength help Riddick to use these guests to get away from the planet, commit an act of retaliation and rescue the people of his homeworld planet Furya from mass destruction.

This time around we appreciate the horror of Resident Evil in 3D and for the fifth time are scared nearly out of our wits by some great writing and superb acting that is not all that common in the horror genre of films. Maybe that is why we now are treated by a fifth installment of this popular and exciting film. Directed by as well as written by Paul Anderson, this is Anderson's third time up to bat and his experience is deep into the shaping of each character into what he wants of them. We find many returning actors playing their characters once again along with some new ones that transferred over from the video game versions.nce again Alice (Milla Jovovich from all five Resident Evil movies plus The Fourth Kind) is captured by the evil Umbrella. We find out more about her complicated past as she continues her quest for the ones who are at fault for the outbreak. Also returning as Jill Valentine is Sienna Guillory (Silence Becomes You), and Oded Fehr (TV's Covert Affairs) as Carlos Olivera who now returns as two different and opposing characters. Who says sequels never equal the original have yet to see Resident Evil: Retribution.

Edge of Tomorrow, perhaps known equally well by its tagline "Live, Die, Repeat" (featured on the DVD box) is a military-themed science fiction film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. An alien race has attacked, and an inexperienced combatant, Major William Cage (Cruise) is dumped into a suicide mission. He dies within minutes, but finds himself resurrected through a time loop which forces him to relive the battle again and again (intentionally in the manner of a video game, only in real life). Each time he dies, but each time, his skill in combat and his knowledge of the enemy also increases, and he and Sergeant Rita Vrataski (Blunt) move another step closer to defeating their seemingly unbeatable foes and saving the planet. The film was widely praised by critics and audience members alike, and was particularly recognized for its success in breaking out of traditional gender roles with Emily Blunt's character.

Based upon the popular Hasbro game with the same name, Battleship is a movie filmed at the Hawaiian islands Oahu and Maui so expect some fabulous scenery! Also filming in Sherman Oaks, California and Baton Rouge, Louisiana the film depicts some really intense battle footage when aliens take potshots at the US Naval Fleet in the Pacific Ocean. "The Regents" are evidently part of an alien race that has descended here to use the ocean to build their own power source when they come into contact with our fleet of navy vessels. The story gives us a perspective from both sides so we not only can see where our troops have placed their ships but also can view the locale of those alien ships, just like the Hasbro game. With the assistance of the Science and Entertainment Exchange we can expect some realistic footage and logistics. Starring Taylor Kitsch (Snakes on a Plane, The Bang-Bang Club) as Alex Hooper, Liam Neeson (Schindler's List, Rob Roy) as Admiral Shane, and Alexander Skarsgard (Trust Me, 13) a Stone Harper and directed by Peter Berg (director of Virtuality, Hancock also as actor in Chicago Hope and Entourage)."

Transcendence is a serious science fiction film which explores questions of mortality, technological overreach, and responsibility. Johnny Depp plays Dr. Will Caster, a dying A.I. researcher, who transfers his emotions and personality to an A.I. interface with the help of his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall). This experiment bestows near-omnipotent power on The Will Caster A.I., but as one might expect with any person who has died and been resurrected, Dr. Caster is no longer quite the same man. As Dr. Caster's quest for knowledge morphs into a quest for power, it dawns on his fellow researchers that they may be helpless to stop him. While Transcendence received mixed reviews, the film's distinctive visuals were widely praised, as well as its willingness to confront major questions of our time.
