Just four days after the first broadcast of "America's Most Wanted," law enforcement officials captured escaped murderer David James Roberts, one of the FBI's "Most Wanted." Police and the FBI credited the show with Roberts's apprehension, giving its popularity a major bounce. "AMW" and its host, John Walsh whose young son was murdered, also contributed substantially to making the tragedy of missing and exploited children an American cause célèbre. In 2010, "AMW" passed two major milestones: It aired its 1000th episode, and its website announced capture of the 1000th criminal profiled on the broadcast.

The last survivor goes home with a cool million American dollars. As the physical, psychological, emotional, and intellectual trials and tests develop, contestants vote one another out of the competition. For the first half of each season, would-be survivors compete in teams; in the second half, they go solo in a full-on destruction derby. Observant viewers discern "Survivor" depends more on workplace treachery than anything anyone might have learned in Boy Scouts or Campfire Girls. Tribes, challenges, alliances, and immunities prove the wilderness differs very little from everyday life in major American corporations"”except the dress code encourages fashionable swimwear.
In each episode, "The Outer Limits" attempted to answer, "What is the nature of man?" Producers called their collection of stories, developed from radically different points of view but always mixing science fact with pseudo-science fiction and the occasional monster, an "anthology." Regular viewers mostly called it "deliciously creepy," indulging a natural tendency to compare it with its counter-part and sometimes rival "The Twilight Zone." Unlike Rod Serling's spine-tingling vignettes, though, "The Outer Limits" did not shy away from old-fashioned horror and raw sensation. "The Outer Limits" was as visceral as "The Twilight Zone" was cerebral. Many episodes dealt with time travel, stranding adventurers in threatening environments where their intellects and technology failed them, triggering their reversion to primitive states. Others explored the infinite possibilities for human evolution and mutation, all with emphasis on the most hideous possibilities. ABC aired "The Outer Limits" between 1963 and 1966; Showtime revived it in 1995, and the Sci-Fi Channel replayed all the episodes between 1999 and 2002.
