With a wide assortment of talent including John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell, Alan Thicke, and Zach Galifianakis showing up as guests and plenty of satirical humor and special effects with editing tricks included this show is one to definitely catch whenever possible. The creators of Awesome Show, Eric Wareheim and Tim Heidecker also control the reins on this fun show, which is often surrealistic, satirical, and always entertaining. Watch for the faux-commercials for they are bizarre and often poke fun at the industry. It has been described as a nightmare version (as seen by us the audience) of the television industry itself. Wareheim and Heidecker's previous offering to television, Tom Goes to the Mayor, provides several of the comedy skits as well as repeat characters borrowed from their original show. She knows her way around however, and hopes to fulfill her dreams. Beth Behrs (Serial Buddies, Size Zero Heroes) is the wealthy Caroline who learns her family is broke due to her father being caught using a Ponzi scheme and faces the prospect of going away to prison. She is "book smart" while Max is the one who has "street smarts". Together they might succeed. Life as a waitress is stressful and they must deal with the cook who likes to sexually harass them and a boss who more resembles a Kung Fu competitor than a Brooklyn diner owner. From the folks who brought us Sex in the City how can it go wrong?

DreamWorks TV and producer Steven Spielberg are hoping their latest entry into prime time television lives up to its name. Smash is about the making of a Broadway musical play which involves the life of Marilyn Monroe. But personal conflicts among the cast members prove to be difficult to work with as they deal with the everyday demands of theater life and this musical in particular. Debra Messing stars as Julia Houston who is the co-writer as well as lyrist and song writer on Smash. Messing, formerly seen on Will & Grace, is an award winner with a musical background. Angelica Huston (Prizzi's Honor, The Adams Family) plays Eileen Rand the musical's producer who has to juggle handling a messy divorce along with the difficulty that goes with producing a Broadway musical. Frank Huston, Julia's husband is played by Brian d'Arcy James (Broadway's Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) is jealous of Tom Levett (Christian Borle from Broadway's Jesus Christ Superstar), Julia's partner and co-writer of Smash. The actress who finally gets the role of Marilyn is Ivy Lynn played by Megan Hilty from the Broadway production of 9 to 5: The Musical. Plenty of behind the scenes back biting helps keep this production on a bumpy road.

The serene suburb of Kansas City, Kansas called Overland Park is the setting for a Showtime hit called United States of Tara which follows the life of Tara Gregson. She is a wife and mother of two who doctors have diagnosed as having dissociative identity disorder. She has multiple personalities that she transitions into when severely stressed. She may become a flirty teen who calls herself "T" or Alice who is a housewife straight out of the 1950's. She may turn into a beer swilling, loud male she calls Vietnam Vet Buck when particularly pressured or even displaying a fourth personality who goes by the name of Gimme. Multiple personalities are uncontrollable and can't be chosen but just happen when she is in a weak moment or facing problems difficult to cope with. Tara does have the support of son and daughter as well as her husband, Max. Charmaine, her doubting sister, sometimes thinks Tara is faking it for sympathy reasons. This intriguing show follows her various personality changes and how they affect the family unit.
