A stylistic and narrative departure from the other titles in the "CSI" franchise, the CSI: Miami edition strives to recreate the neon-drenched allure of South Beach. Veteran television viewers may recognize the show's natural affinity with the eighties hit "Miami Vice"; apparently, in Miami, the light always shines through colored filters and everyday events always have awesome soundtracks. As in all the "CSI" shows, a dedicated squad of forensics experts solves otherwise unsolvable crimes with the benefit of their daunting intellects and their dazzling technology. Plots follow Jerry Bruckheimer's tried-and-proven formula for "following the evidence" wherever it leads. The "pretty" one among the CSI brands, "CSI: Miami TV Show" features at least as much scientific could-be as it depends on forensic facts. Naturally, the characters are as pretty as their surroundings. David Caruso stars as Horatio Cane, the unit leader with a special gift for slowly and deliberately taking off his sunglasses and delivering pithy one-liners as if they were lines from Shakespeare. Emily Procter charms as ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne, and the juxtaposition of petite southern belle with major firearms is not wasted on the show's primarily male audience. Adam Rodriguez plays the sometimes tormented "Delko," and Rodriguez tops fan polls as the show's most personable actor. Jonathan Togo and Eva LaRue round-out the show's collection of pretty people.

You could think of "Pretty Little Liars" TV show as "Gossip Girl" goes to the suburbs, except that the vapid world of Park Avenue apartments is, frankly, really boring compared to Rosewood, Pennsylvania. Based on a series of young adult novels by the same name, "Pretty Little Liars" shows the genuinely dramatic, morally-challenged lives of four teen-age girls, a cliquish little group"”Hannah, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. They could be renegades from the American Girls doll collection, except that they are frighteningly rich and more-than-tragically flawed. Hannah, for example, shoplifts, inviting her mother to complain, "I buy you everything you need to be popular," and leaving everyone to assume that's the last word on the subject. Conscience lives somewhere well beyond the city limits, exacting big penalties from those who transgress. As the show opens, Ali, leader and style-setter of the group, disappears a la "Blair Witch." The real action begins, though, three years after Ali's mysterious disappearance, when the "Pretty Little Liars" begin receiving text messages that very strongly suggest someone is watching them"”especially in their most compromising moments. Adding piquancy and spice to the digital displays, the sender signs them cryptically "A."

Days of Our Lives

Days of Our Lives TV Show is a daytime soap opera that centers on to main families; the Brady's and the Horton's. It is set in a midsized make believe Midwest town called Salem that proves to be full of surprises. These families get tangled in everything from being held captive on a secret island to long lost relatives showing up. The characters lives are forever changing and not the way they always want it to. Days of Our Lives TV Show definitely delivers everything from drama to mystery with a strong foundation of characters and history that keeps it going after over forty years of episodes.

Dexter

In its first review of "Dexter TV show", the New York Times summarized, "[Dexter Morgan] kills people and cuts them up. But they deserve it. Besides, he's neat." When a serial killer leaves a trail of tidy corpses in service of justice, audiences cannot get enough; he liberates everybody's inner vigilante. Dexter, played pitch-perfect and spot-on by television veteran Michael C. Hall (late of "Six Feet Under"), is a smart and smart-mouthed, self-aware crime scene investigator who moonlights as a blood-thirsty avenger. Dexter is your average psychopath-next-door, comparable with Macbeth or Hannibal Lecter, but with charm and good jokes. As critics and viewers have stressed since the show's very first episode, Dexter kills only people who deserve to die"”depraved pedophiles, drunk drivers with neither conscience nor remorse, and other reprehensible characters who slip through the cracks in the justice system. The show's producers John Goldwyn and Sara Colleton assert, "Dexter becomes a metaphor for people closeted by their secrets." They exaggerate their character's allegorical powers"¦but only a little.

The Young & the Restless

Since the first episode aired back on March 26 of 1973 the two central families, the Brooks and the Fosters had been butting heads in Genoa City, Wisconsin. The Brooks family, you see, are wealthy and prosperous with all the usual baggage that comes with that territory. On the other hand the Foster family remains poor and while they may not exactly pass for "trailer trash" they do manage to act like it. As the years went by however, the central characters left for various reasons so were replaced by two new "core" families, the Abbotts and the Williams. The show also went from a one half hour per day "soap" to an hour long "soap opera" in back 1980. Two of the central characters have remained, to this day, rivals and star performers. Both Katherine Chancellor and Jill Foster Abbott have been involved in many plot twists and turns over the past nearly forty years of the long running soap's history. Major story lines have included sexual relationships involving an early introduction into premarital sexual intercourse, lesbianism, incest, impotence, rape, and even breast cancer, bulimia, and alcoholism, just your basic human frailties and diseases.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

"Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" - different gladiator, same sex and violence. Starz' deliciously decadent"”salacious, violent, often flat-out brutal"”"Spartacus: Blood and Sand" recently went on extended hiatus, leaving its legions of loyal fans "jonesing" for their weekly doses of decapitation and bare breasts. The Spartacus team satisfied fans' craving with "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," a six-episode prequel to the continuing saga of Batiatus and Associates. Starting with a flashback montage of "Blood and Sand's" greatest hits, more precisely Batiatus's life flashing before his eyes in the moment before his death, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" shows Batiatus's rise to prominence and power with the assistance and support of his all-pro gladiator Gannicus. Because these stories represent "a more ruthless time"¦where honor was just finding its way into the arena," the writers and producers feel free to elaborate and experiment with their already-established characters, and they feel similar artistic license with super-slow-motion gore and fun-fantasy sex. They clearly are perfecting their craft. One particularly insightful viewer concluded his review of "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" with a sage observation: "I think that's one of the smart decisions putting it on a Friday night since it's an ideal end of the work week thing to watch."

Bones

Working with the science, technology, and geniuses afforded by "The Jeffersonian Institution," the FBI solves mysteries wrapped in enigmas packaged in conundrums. Derived from Canadian anthropologist Kathy Reichs's popular series of novels, and loosely based on Reichs's own life and character, "Bones TV show" effectively makes it cool to be smart. The plots elevate forensic science to the status of dramatic art, answering the question, "What kind of story would you get if the love child of "˜House' and "˜CSI' hooked-up with a romantic comedy?" Viewers come for the crime drama and stay for the romance, because the romance makes "Bones" as delicious as it is dramatic. Dr. Temperance Brennas (Emily Deuschanel) and FBI Agent Seely Booth (David Boreanz), take their professional partnership very-very seriously, especially because it provides the ideal mask for much deeper feelings between them. The writers frequently stretch the romantic and sexual tension well past its tested limits and right to the brink of its breaking point. Naturally, viewers constantly hope Brennan and Booth will consummate their love; just as naturally, they understand it never can happen. No tension, no show. Meanwhile, America sleeps safer at night knowing that Brennan and Booth are on the case.
