A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III stars Charlie Sheen as Charles Swan III a graphic designer who is popular among the ladies, successful in professional life and generally a lucky man. But in one unfortunate moment his life suddenly changes when Charles' girlfriend Ivana, breaks with him unexpectedly. Since that moment Charles life begins to slide by a tailspin-shaped curve. His manager Saul and best friend Kirby both try to help Charles but ineffectually. The movie's action takes place in the midst of 70s' when life was still full of "sex-drug-and-rock-and-roll things: which causes an ultimate influence on the filming style of A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. The movie is directed by Roman Coppola who has given us CQ. So, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say the film is almost a directorial debut Roman Coppola as for big-screen movie. Rabbit Hole movie director John Cameron Mitchell drains away the film's melodrama and pathos by rendering it in "drab, functional, TV-movie naturalism," making it beguiling and terrifying. Through Mitchell's lens, the horrific events and overwhelming emotions seem exceptionally familiar and perfectly ordinary. Rabbit Hole terrifies everyday Cineplex audiences, forcing them to recognize just how easily they might become Becca and Howie.

It's a Christmas time of 2004. An ordinary British family Henry (Ewan McGregor) and Maria (Naomi Watts) visits Thailand on vacations with their three children: Lucas, who is just turned 7, and his younger brothers Simon and Thomas (children are played by Tom Holland, Oaklee Pendergastand and Samuel Joslin, accordingly). As they reach the Thai hotel, their family suit is upgraded to villa, a horrible decision, as it turns after. They are exchanging some Christmas gifts and heading to the coastline the morning after. Nothing has presaged a catastrophe. But meanwhile the terrible roar is heard from the seaside, and, in the moment, a giant wave of Tsunami covers the shoreline with all the tourists on it, including Henry, Maria and their beloved children. The wave is crashing trees, houses, cars, throwing human bodies to right and left. In a few seconds it appears that Henry, Simon and Thomas were picked up by the strong current and wiped to the inner part of land while Maria and Lucas are struggling for their survive in the roaring waves full of fallen tries which strike them inflicting terrible wounds, and making "the happy end" for them almost impossible. The movie, filmed by Juan Antonio Bayona, an outstanding Spanish director and producer, keeps us on the toes these first 20 minutes. The super-realistic 3D sound of imminent Tsunami is awesome, the pictures of scorched post-Tsunami landscape are phenomenally affecting, and the rest of the story based on true life events is very touchable and tragic.

The film premiered on Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and gained mostly positive critics alongside with Audience Award in "Dramatic" category and Special Jury Prize in category "Dramatic Acting - Cast". As for cast ensemble – it represent a perfectly combined blend of true personalities pooled by a genuine chemistry between each other. The leading role of paralyzed writer was acquired by unparalleled John Hawkes, who may be familiar to you by his roles in The Playroom as Martin Cantwell, Arcadia as Tom and Contagion as Roger. Helen Hunt plays his soul mate and the sexual sessions partner, Cheryl Cohen Greene; you may remember Helen as Darcy Maguire in What Women Want, a Nancy Meyers movie, which was filmed in 2000.
