Resident Evil: Retribution

Description

This time around we appreciate the horror of Resident Evil in 3D and for the fifth time are scared nearly out of our wits by some great writing and superb acting that is not all that common in the horror genre of films. Maybe that is why we now are treated by a fifth installment of this popular and exciting film. Directed by as well as written by Paul Anderson, this is Anderson's third time up to bat and his experience is deep into the shaping of each character into what he wants of them. We find many returning actors playing their characters once again along with some new ones that transferred over from the video game versions.nce again Alice (Milla Jovovich from all five Resident Evil movies plus The Fourth Kind) is captured by the evil Umbrella. We find out more about her complicated past as she continues her quest for the ones who are at fault for the outbreak. Also returning as Jill Valentine is Sienna Guillory (Silence Becomes You), and Oded Fehr (TV's Covert Affairs) as Carlos Olivera who now returns as two different and opposing characters. Who says sequels never equal the original have yet to see Resident Evil: Retribution.

Undoubtfully, cinematography has been my passion since a very young age. Even now, watching a new movie or series always prompts me to ask a lot of questions to the author. Thus, every little essay about a title is definitely not a spoiler, but rather an attempt to explore the idea.

After Earth

2013
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Last Airbender) filmed by Columbia Pictures in 2012 this movie hits the screens in 2013. After Earth follows an exciting story written by Gary Whitta about a father and a son survived a starship crash on a distant inhabited planet. Cypher Raige is a recognized hero of many wars, a legendary general who heads his spacecraft to the distant realms, convoying recently captured fierce alien creature. He travels with his son, Kitai Raige, inexperienced 13-years-old boy who gets his initial knowledge about space voyages. Unfortunately, a technical malfunction triggers a chain of events that lead to emergency landing on hostile planet. The only hope for deathly injured father and his son is to find and activate SOS beacon before Cypher Raige dies. Bad news: their radars indicate that the beacon is located on the other side of the planet and ocean of impassable jungles infested with bloodthirsty animals and furious alien that escaped the spaceship during the crash are the only obstacle between 13-years old Kitai and the hope to save their lives. Seriously wounded Cypher can't move, but he tries to help his son to overcome the fear by couching him distantly. The only thing is left at his disposal is to convince Kitai, that in contradistinction to dreadful monsters his fear is not real. That means that Kitai has to forget the fear and concentrate on the real dangers: ravenous creatures and virulent environment of the hostile planet. By the way it's Earth. Yes, it's our home planet that was abandoned by humans almost 1000 years ago due to the catastrophic event that wiped out majority of the species. Since that time new kinds of giant animal took the place of extincted ones and now they dominate the Earth. It's strange and suspicious that we know so much about the movie's story, taking in consideration that After Earth was directed by M. Night Shyamalan, so you have to expect some unpredictable plot twists. Another fact to enjoy is the ensemble cast: there are two leading characters - the father and the son, and they are the real father and son Will and Jaden Smith. Yes, this is the Will Smith (Men in Black franchise, Wild Wild West and I, Legend) and his son Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid, The Day the Earth Stood Still).
X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class

2011
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Do not misread the connotations in the title X-Men: First Class. "First class" is a phrase which here does not mean "the best, the finest, the most luxurious," nor does it signify "the part of the plane with complimentary cocktails and room to stretch out." Take the phrase literally. In strangely oxymoronic style, the studio's promotional materials claim X-Men: First Class "charts the epic beginning (sic) of the X-Men saga," the first group of students to graduate from Professor X's school for reluctant super-heroes. "Who knew an "epic beginning" was possible? In their salad days, Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, ultimately sworn mortal enemies, were the best of buds, experimenting with and testing their newly discovered powers, preparing to join other Mutants to prevent Armageddon. X-Men: First Class documents their nasty break-up. They could not be "just friends.""Although the men allegedly star in X-Men: First Class, the so-called "supporting actresses" threaten to steal the show. January Jones of "Madmen" fame plays Emma Frost, villainesse supreme, co-conspirator with Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, criminal mastermind. More notably, Jennifer Lawrence—yes that Jennifer Lawrence, low-keyed "It Girl" from Winter's Bone and the Oscars' red carpet—plays Mystique, aka Raven Darkholme, shape-shifting mutant. By film's end, girl power may trump super-powers.
Ender's Game

Ender's Game

2013
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
The most anticipated adaptation of 2013 Ender's Game is loosely based on the same name book, that was probably the most iconic sci-fi novel in mid of 80s. Its author, Orson Scott Card has had many chances during 80s and 90s to make a movie after his book as the astronomically budgeted Hollywood movie. However he has kept his creative rights till 2000, when he finally decided to film the bestseller with the co-founding the Fresco Pictures to make a movie and write a screenplay himself. The action of Ender's Game unfolds in the distant future when Earth is invaded by myriads of Formics, an aggressive alien race also known as Buggers for their insects-alike appearance. The humanity is on the verge of distinction when the Strategist of the Earth takes a historical decision – to search a potentially talented child to train him as Great War Commander using the sophisticated space battle simulators. After a severe screening, they found Ender, a promising boy who shows the astonishing results on battle simulators. While his training is in progress it becomes absolutely clear that Ender is a last hope of human race to survive. His mentors decide to accelerate his learning by promoting him to Command School where he trains using state-of-the-art simulators that create an illusion of real space battle. Meanwhile, Ender's psychentonia makes him on the verge of nervous breakdown when he decides to fail his last exam: facing enemy's superior forces leaving no chances to win, he leads his spaceships to imminent death hoping that at least one could reach the planet to launch the MD, a devices that destructs all the object with positive mass around. That means a total annihilation of both human's and alien's spaceships and the planet in addition. Upon the "success" he surprisingly gets an ovation from his examiners: all his simulators' games were real space battles since he entered the Command School, and the last battle was the real Last Battle of International Forces against the Aliens where Earthlings have won thanks to Ender's brilliant strategy. Asa Butterfield stars in Ender's Game as main character Ender Wiggin. His filmography includes Hugo (as Hugo Cabret), Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (as Norman Green) and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (as Bruno). Harrison Ford (Apocalypse Now, Star Wars franchise, Witness) plays as Colonel Graff, Ender's mentor.
