Tragedy, much like misery, loves company. In Clint Eastwood's Hereafter movie, three intertwining stories of persons who have had close encounters with death and the dead are told in dramatic episodes. Matt Damon is George Lonegan, an American worker who can talk with the dead; while Cecile de France is Marie, a French TV journalist and one of the few tsunami survivors and there are brothers, Marcus and Jason (played by Frankie and George McLaren) who died from a car accident. At one dramatic point, these tragic stories converge.

"Black Legion" is a 1937 crime drama film directed by Archie Mayo. The movie tells the story of Frank Taylor, an average factory worker who becomes entangled in a dangerous secret society known as the Black Legion. Set in the United States during the Great Depression, the film explores themes of economic hardship, racism, and the consequences of unchecked prejudice.

"Gone Girl" is a 2014 psychological thriller film that tells the story of the disappearance of Amy Dunne, and the subsequent investigation into her husband Nick Dunne's possible involvement in her disappearance. The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay. The film is directed by David Fincher and stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in the lead roles.

"Nightcrawler" is a 2014 thriller film that tells the story of Lou Bloom, a desperate and ambitious young man who discovers the world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Using a police scanner and a video camera, Lou begins to capture footage of violent crimes and accidents, which he then sells to local news stations. As Lou's career takes off, he becomes increasingly ruthless and manipulative, crossing ethical boundaries and putting himself and others in danger.

Filmed in 2012, Taken 2 is Olivier's Megaton sequel of Taken which was previously produced in cooperation with Luc Besson in 2008. The sequel's scenario was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen who wrote the screenplays for Besson's Transporters and Fifth Element. The plot of Taken 2 is continuing the story of the first movie, where special agent Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) rescues his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) from taken as the hostage by Albanian mobs specializing in kidnapping teenagers to sell them into sexual slavery. The events of Taken 2 start just after the father of one of trhe Albanian mobs, who was killed by Bryan Mills, learns about murder of his son and swears to kill Bryan. This Albanian Mafioso, who is called Murad (Rade Е erbedЕѕija) abducts Byan's ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen), while she is on her vacation in Istanbul, counting on Bryan to come and rescue her. His masterplan seems to be successful one and he captivates Bryan alongside with Lenore hoping to kill them both. In this situation Bryan enlists their daughter Kim instructing her how to rescue them using special tactic: to kill Albanian mobs one by one in some specific ways.

Brad Pitt plays Jackie Cogan in Andrew Dominik's crime thriller Killing Them Softly, a mobster whose task is to investigate an impudent murder which happened during the illegal poker game organized by mafia bosses. To have a holistic perception of the movie atmosphere just mix-up in your imagination The Sopranos, GoodFellas, Pulp Fiction and put them in a Bush/Obama post-crisis America of last half of 2008; ladle it with some thick layer of political dressing made of pragmatic thoughts and infallible Jackie Cogan's phrases about what happens with people when recession comes and who is responsible for all of this mess. Killing Them Softly is loosely based on George V. Higgins novel Cogan's Trade which he wrote in the period of time 1972 – 1974, when he worked as lawyer, specializing in crime processes involving mafia complicity. This fact leads us to believe that he knows a lot about the shady inside world of gangster's "paradise" which served as a perfectly sharpened background for Andrew Dominik's movie. Filmed for that point in post-Katrina New Orleans Killing Them Softly immerses us in the abyss of despair and hopelessness which enveloped everyone's minds and souls of in America, regardless of occupation – even for thorough-paced gangster – it's time to think about what's wrong with this world. The movie was nominated for the Palme d'Or at 65th Cannes Film Festival in 2012.
