"Big Brother" numbers among those long-running (unreal) reality shows that keep rolling along on their own momentum long after the thrills have gone. Originally adapted from a popular Dutch series, "Big Brother" puts thirteen carefully chosen strangers in a house heavily wired with cameras and microphones, capturing every word, gesture, and nuance. The producers challenge their "guests" to complete a series of physical and mental "stunts," periodically polling their feelings about who among them should go home. The one guest who stays longest goes home with half-a-million American dollars. Although "Big Brother's" novelty has faded, even the most stony-hearted and cynical critics must accord the superannuated series its props: When an online streaming service attempted a similarly contrived "residential situation," capitalizing on the industry's newest, most sophisticated audio and video technology, it faded to black in less than a month. At the other end of the scale, when MTV adapted "Big Brother's" premise for use along the New Jersey coastline, it became a cultural phenomenon, and "Snooki" became a household word. Clearly, it's not the premise but the chemistry that determines the show's fate. Therefore, credit "Big Brother" with good chemistry and agree to roll along with the momentum.

"Beyond Scared Straight" is a reality television show that was broadcasted on A&E Network. The show features teenagers who are taken to prisons and jails to meet with inmates and to experience the harsh reality of life behind bars. The aim of the show is to deter young people from committing crimes by showing them the consequences of their actions.

Today the do-it-yourself home video market is extremely busy and popular. Almost anyone who has a cell phone or digital camera can shoot some video any time and anywhere. MTV brings the Funniest Home Video idea into homes with a bunch of amateurish videos that have gone internet viral and for one reason or another, have grabbed the attention of a wide audience. Some subject matter, like guys getting hit in their groin area, may be humorous to some but not so much to others. It's a matter of taste (or maybe lack of it) that gets home produced videos to earn watchability. The title of this show is more or less self explanatory and Rob Dyrdek's idea of fun and entertaining television is robbing entertaining clips from YouTube and presenting them on a network that used to mean something music wise, then turning them into juvenile jokes. Also seen are Chanel "West Coast" and Sterling Brim aka Steelo making comments about what is funny and what was better left on the internet to be lost in space. Because she has been banned from most TV shows for her salty language and poking fun using over-the-top humor at celebs and other rich and famous people. For all the fans of Kathy Griffin's "signature" jokes and videos where Kathy appearing in bikini (marketers are saying hello to significant share of male audience), we have to say: she acts very funny and natural, except the moments when she tries to interact with her panel (it's surprisingly boring). It seems like never ending sex jokes and beeping language becomes a kind of "trademark" of Kathy's style of performance, but nevertheless she is really hard working to entertain you. And, from that point of view, she is super successful: as the comedienne she raises the reality talk shows to a new level of reality.

"Kourtney and Kim Take New York" chronicles the continuing adventures of the unmarried Kardashian sisters as they work their strange magic on adoring fans in the Big Apple. Like magnets among loose nails, the girls draw a crowd wherever they go, cameras stalking every step. Viewers enjoy more of the intense Kardashian programming they apparently craved and demanded. On any given day, E! empowers you to keep up with some kind of Kardashian in at least three ways during approximately twelve hours of non-stop first-letter-"K" programming. If it weren't for the success of Chelsea Handler, E! News, renegade women fleeing the Playboy mansion, and "Fashion Police," the Kardashians would fill entire programming days. Apropos of "reality" programming, "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" has neither plot nor script, but it has plenty of "situations." Kim, more or less determined to remain single for an entire year, nevertheless has no qualms about exciting hook-ups with assorted styles and flavours of eligible New York bachelors. Kourtney, ostensibly the more level-headed and businesslike of the two, apparently lives vicariously through Kim. Together, they allegedly run a business in-between pictorials, promotions, parties, and "Patron"-powered club appearances. Moralists might worry, as "Kourtney and Kim Take New York," they corrupt an entire generation of impressionable "˜tween girls, but studies show thirteen-year-old boys are the Kardashian sisters' biggest demographic.

Professional decorator Jeff Lewis and his assistants are in the house "flipping" business. That is they buy them up cheaply and sell for a profit. Along the way there are always complications involved with refurbishing houses that have been neglected or even abandoned, thanks especially to the real estate crash in recent years. The stressful environment of flipping houses makes Lewis decide to concentrate more on home design and his consulting business as a means of income. We, the viewing audience, follow him and his helpers along as they work out the details and improve on each home they take on as a project now based in the Los Angeles, California area. Among the homes Jeff Lewis takes on as home improvement projects are some worth well over a million dollars so this is no small time business. Jenni Pulos, Ryan Brown, Chris Elwood, and Chris Keslar are part of his crew and prove to be dedicated workers who Lewis finds he can't do without. The program makes for some interesting and inspiring viewing that makes many of us want to head for the Home Depot and begin our own restoration in our own homes.
