"The Leftovers" is an American television drama series that aired on HBO from 2014 to 2017. It is based on a novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta. The show explores the aftermath of a mysterious event known as the "Sudden Departure," in which 2% of the world's population suddenly disappears without explanation.
The series is set in the fictional town of Mapleton, New York, and follows the lives of the town's residents in the aftermath of the Sudden Departure. The show primarily focuses on the Garvey family, including police chief Kevin Garvey, his wife Laurie, and their children Jill and Tom. As the series progresses, the characters deal with themes of grief, faith, and loss, as they try to make sense of what happened and move on with their lives.
The Leftovers received critical acclaim for its writing, acting, and direction, with particular praise given to its exploration of complex themes and its depiction of human emotion. While the series was not a commercial success, it has gained a devoted following and has been praised for its ambitious storytelling and emotional depth.
