Carrie

description

Carrie is a 2026 Prime Video horror series that hands Stephen King's seismic 1974 debut novel to Mike Flanagan, the filmmaker behind The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. Rather than a straight remake of Brian De Palma's iconic 1976 film, Flanagan expands the slim novel into an eight-episode longform drama, developing its characters and its mythology while keeping the tragic shape audiences know. All eight episodes dropped at once in October 2026 after a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Newcomer Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, the bullied, telekinetically gifted teenager, with Samantha Sloyan — a Flanagan regular — as her mother Margaret, here reconceived as fiercely protective rather than simply punishing. Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, and Amber Midthunder fill out the students and faculty of Ewen High, with Matthew Lillard as the principal. Flanagan writes the series and directs several episodes, with Stephen King himself serving as an executive producer.

Flanagan's take leans into empathy, framing Carrie as open and trusting rather than guarded and reframing her mother's love as a smothering attempt at protection, while seeding a wider idea of a sisterhood of gifted women. The famous bathroom and prom sequences remain, but they arrive by new routes. A longform reimagining from one of horror's most thoughtful voices, Carrie is streaming on Prime Video.
