In 1966, teenager Carl joins his godfather Quentin aboard Radio Rock, a ship whose disc jockeys broadcast rock music to British listeners while operating outside the government’s licensing system. Life at sea places Carl among The Count, Gavin, Dave and the rest of an unruly crew whose popularity depends on keeping the station on the air.
As government minister Sir Alistair Dormandy searches for a legal way to silence offshore radio, rivalries and personal conflicts test the crew before new rules place the ship itself at risk. Richard Curtis’s ensemble comedy uses the standoff to explore music, censorship, loyalty and the culture built around a shared broadcast.
