Pain & Gain

Hughes brothers exploit a very specific niche of "commercial cinema for nerds" filmed The Book of Eli, a western about the Second Coming. You haven't even know that Eli is the God in Aramaic, and generally have at least a minimal understanding of sacred texts. Simplicity and clarity of massage of the movie makes us expecting some more complex content. Especially because the atmosphere and style of the film is beyond any praises. They succeeded to create really juicy and truthful post-apocalyptic world, which filled with the atmosphere of despair, echoing, resonating basses and shot with the cold spectrum filters. A character of Washington is so cool in his calm relaxed state that somehow you really begin to believe that good actually has fists.

Few of us know that "Olympus" is the Secret Service code for White House. Nevertheless it reveals the base of the plot of Antoine Fuqua's Olympus Has Fallen, the movie about a terrorist attack on most significant government building of America. As terrorists secured their mission and kidnap the President, National Security Team engages with effort to save his life and avert much bigger disaster. Their success depends of Mike Banning's insider knowledge about how security organized around the President and White House. The problem is that Banning was fired some time ago and now is out of the trust. Also few of us know that the same plot was used in Sony Pictures, who was filming White House Down directed by Roland Emmerich in the same time. In this competition of two quite similar films Antoine Fuqua has some advantage expressed in brilliant actors cast. The main hero Mike Banning is played Gerard Butler. You may know him as George in Playing for Keeps or Frosty Hesson in Chasing Mavericks. Another remarkable movie Gerard Butler starred at is Coriolanus. Some of us may remember 300 where Gerard Butler played King Leonidas. As for President Benjamin Asher, Aaron Eckhart (Rabbit Hole, Love Happens, The Dark Knight) secured this role in 2012. Morgan Freeman also stars in the movie as Speaker Trumbull, a man behind the curtain, who took the power when the President was kidnapped.

A genuinely suspenseful thriller featuring accomplished actresses in uncharacteristic roles, Hanna combines the considerable talents of Saoirse Roana, notable for her compelling performance in The Lovely Bones, and Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett. No longer a long-suffering ingénue, Ms. Roana plays Hanna herself, "the perfect killing machine," and Ms. Blanchett plays a ruthless intelligence agent with clear family ties to Cruella DeVille, Ma Barker, Catherine Tramell, and other stellar sociopaths. "Please suspend disbelief for Hanna's fundamental premise: Hanna's father, formerly CIA and now resident of Finland's rugged frontier, has trained his daughter to become the consummate assassin. Whether or not you find it plausible, you must admit it's not a bad idea: Who ever would suspect the innocent abroad would be hell-bent on killing? Well, okay, who but Blanchett's character? As Hanna evades capture and approaches her ultimate target, she discovers a character attribute which feels and acts surprisingly like a conscience. Remember the time-honoured themes in modern literature—good versus evil, and character versus his or her own human nature? Hanna updates and intensifies those themes in a well-paced, white-knuckle post-modern, girl-power package.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote the book The Rum Diary back in 1961 when he knew very well what the demon rum was all about. Even the screenplay writer/director, Bruce Robinson was familiar with boozing being had sworn off alcohol over six years before but went back to it just to finish the screenplay that writer's block was keeping him from completing. That's dedication! ohnny Depp (Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco) is freelance journalist Paul Kemp, himself one of those lost souls he writes about. Determined to self destruct it's obvious this rag tag bunch of humanities leftovers just seem to drink their lives away. But Kemp falls for a woman that brightens up his days. Chenault is played by Amber Heard (Pineapple Express, Zombieland) and is Kemp's obsession as he drinks his days away in Puerto Rico.hat makes a movie about drunks and their ability to consume volumes of fermented sugarcane (rum) interesting? It's about the lost souls that seem to have given up on life and what they leave behind, like lovers, families, and life they're afraid to face. And Thompson's writing makes it all seem to work perhaps because The Rum Diary is about his life...
