Description

Michael is the long-awaited 2026 biographical film about Michael Jackson, directed by Antoine Fuqua and released theatrically by Lionsgate in the United States and by Universal Pictures internationally. Positioned as a definitive big-screen account of the King of Pop, it stars Jaafar Jackson — Michael's real-life nephew — in the title role, a casting choice that drew enormous attention when the project was first announced.

The film traces Jackson's journey from the formation of the Jackson 5 in the mid-1960s through his childhood stardom and the grueling rehearsals overseen by his father, to his ascent as the biggest solo artist in the world, closing around the era of the Bad World Tour. Colman Domingo plays the family patriarch Joseph Jackson, Nia Long appears as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller plays entertainment attorney John Branca, Laura Harrier is Suzanne de Passe, and Mike Myers takes on music-industry executive Walter Yetnikoff.

Released in April 2026 after a premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, Michael became a commercial phenomenon, grossing close to a billion dollars worldwide to rank as the highest-grossing music biopic in history and the most successful release in Lionsgate's history. Critics were sharply divided — many praised Jaafar Jackson's uncanny performance while faulting the film's polished, sympathetic portrait — but audiences responded warmly, awarding it an A-minus CinemaScore. It is streaming on Starz.

Maybe the biggest roadblock to remaking such a venerable musical classic is found in the music. Updating those rock and roll classics with more modern day tunes will be risky. And those memorable characters are a challenge. Ren McCormack is now played by a young dancer named Kenny Wormald (from MTV's Dancelife and Center Stage: Turn it up). And the beautiful Ariel Moore is now played by gorgeous Julianne Hough of Dancing With the Stars professional performer credit. Her father, the Reverend Shaw Moore is now portrayed by Dennis Quaid (Great Balls of Fire, Enemy Mine) and his wife, Vi is played by the beautiful Andie McDowell (Sex, Lies, and Video Tape, Four Weddings and a Funeral). his is an updated version that holds true to the original in almost every aspect, even the music. Songs like "Let's Hear it for the Boy" have somewhat of a southern texture now that the film is set in Beaumont, Tennessee instead of Beaumont, Utah. The Chattahoochee River's bridge is the scene for that memorable game of "chicken" between Ariel's two love interests now that Ren has moved to town. Look for plenty of action and some great music.

If you are going to look for that "half", which makes "Nine" more than "Eight and a half", then you can find it in a consequence of the almost complete rejection of Marshall's confessional original. Instead og Fellini's excursion into your own mind here is melodrama of a person who does not want to change the freedom of their own fantasies on the responsibility and hassle of the real world. The unique crisis Marshall thus replaces the by the universal one. And with all the vulgarity of the resulting parade lacy stockings and fake romantic accents you have to admit: there is no need to be Fellini to resolve difficult relations with all the women of the life. It is much better to build mentally the cabaret of these women instead.

For those who can't get enough of Glee, Universal Studios created an out-loud musical, Pitch Perfect which acclaimed to be a successful hit in 2012 alongside with Step Up Revolution. The story of Pitch Perfect is revolving around a girl Beca, which is portrayed by Anna Kendrick (if you have no idea, who Anna Kendrick is – just remember Rosie from Twilight Saga and you will get a clue). In Pitch Perfect, Anna plays a music-addicted teenager who just arrived to her new college and seems to be mismatch for any clique there. Nevertheless, she herds a group of mean and weird girls that are climbing their way to the heights of recognition as college acappella. Fortunately, Beca features a strong and beautiful vocal talent which will be certainly very helpful in their music battle against male acappella of the college. Namely around that battle most of the Pitch Perfect action revolves.
