Alien: Romulus

Description

Alien: Romulus is a 2024 science fiction horror film directed by Fede Álvarez and produced by Scott Free Productions and 20th Century Studios, serving as a standalone entry in the Alien franchise set between the events of Ridley Scott's original Alien (1979) and James Cameron's Aliens (1986). The film follows a group of young space colonists who board an abandoned deep-space station and unwittingly encounter the most terrifying life form in the galaxy. Álvarez, whose previous work includes the Evil Dead remake and Don't Breathe, brings his distinctive talent for sustained dread and practical horror craft to the franchise's mythology.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine, a colonist desperate to escape her dead-end mining world who leads a small crew onto the derelict station Romulus in search of equipment that could fund their escape to a better planet. David Jonsson plays her android companion Andy, whose shifting allegiances become one of the film's central sources of tension. Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu round out the crew. The film generated significant discussion for its use of digitally recreated imagery of the late Ian Holm, who played the android Ash in the original 1979 film.

Alien: Romulus earned strong critical reception and proved a considerable commercial success, grossing over $350 million worldwide against a reported budget in the range of $80 million — making it one of the most profitable entries in the Alien franchise in decades. Critics praised Álvarez's disciplined command of suspense, the film's impressive practical effects work, and its skill in expanding the franchise's mythology while delivering the sustained terror that the series' best installments have always provided. The film was seen as a significant course correction for a franchise that had struggled with its two most recent installments.

Is the phrase "dybbuk box" sounds familiar to you? You may be heard this unbelievable true story about the box being sold on eBay in 2001 to Mannis, a furniture restorer, who was warned about evil ghost, trapped inside the box, by ex-owner's granddaughter upon collection. He tried to return the box, but his offer met weird hysterical refusal. Lately, he learned lots about the box. It is originated from Lodz ghetto, where in 1938 a group of women managed to conduct the spiritual séance resulted in trapping a dybbuk in the box. Dybbuk is a Jewish-folklore evil spirit, who represents a soul of dead person, which has unfinished business in the world of living. To make things done, dybbuk infuses in the human live being, which it ultimately devours at the end. But let's go back to the story, the box and its owner survived the horrors of World War 2, and emigrated to USA, where she died in 2001 and the box were sold to abovementioned Mannis. Finally, he brings this box home and opens it. Inside, he finds strange artifacts: locks of blonde and brunette hairs, dried flower buds, a goblet with remains of wine and the statue with Hebrew word Shalom, engraved on it. Lately he sold the box due to the numerous nightmares he and his wife suffered after the box appeared in their lives. All the later owners of "dybbuk box" have reported about these nightmares and curses that accompanied their lives since they bought the box. This true story has laid in the storyline's foundation of The Possession, the movie released in 2012. The film was directed by Ole Bornedal, and screenplay was written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick are starring in the movie alongside with Grant Show, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis. The last one portrays the main character, Em, who apparently becomes possessed by a dybbuk from the box.
