Description

Al Jazeera English, which means "The Island" in Arabic, is a worldwide news television network, which owned and operated by Qatar Media Corporation. English version of Al Jazeera is available via satellite and in the Internet as Al Jazeera Live. You can watch Al Jazeera Live in English on OnlineTVcast airing 24 hours a day in English. Al Jazeera TV channel begins its history from 1995. The channel initially was funded by Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa with USD137 million loan, which breathed life into the network. Now Al Jazeera seeks for other ways of financing such as subsidies and grants to maintain its editorial policy independent as far as it possible. Although Al Jazeera is treated as a trustworthy source of unbiased information by many Arabian people, the channel faces international criticism based on the idea that the Qatar government manipulates Al-Jazeera coverage to suit political interests. Al Jazeera's videos of masked terrorists beheading western hostages in Iraq raised criticism and controversy about the channel editorial policy. But, despite all the contradictions Al Jazeera stays the most watched international Arabic channel in the world competing BBC in worldwide audiences with an estimated 40 to 50 million viewers. English version of Al Jazeera features adapted programming substantially targeted on USA audience: 101 East news talk show covering Middle East events, presented by Teymoor Nabili; In one city with only 48 hours, pros and cons of city living with Amanda Palmer; Counting The Cost, a weekly analytical business and finance program, with Kamahl Santamaria; Empire, a monthly program talk show about globalization, with Marwan Bishara and his guests.
