The series is based on Rebecca Godfrey's own book about the Reena Virk case, which Godfrey spent years researching and writing, and Godfrey was involved in the television adaptation's development before her death from lung cancer in 2022 — the show is dedicated to her memory and represents a collaboration that outlasted her participation in it.
