The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a sweeping five-part miniseries directed by Justin Kurzel and adapted by Shaun Grant from Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel. A searing meditation on love, war, and memory, it moves between a doomed wartime romance and the horrors of a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, and ranks among the most acclaimed prestige dramas of its year.
The story follows Australian surgeon Dorrigo Evans across three timelines: as a young medical officer (Jacob Elordi) consumed by a passionate affair with his uncle's wife Amy (Odessa Young) before shipping out; as a prisoner forced to keep men alive while building the notorious Thai-Burma "Death Railway"; and as a celebrated but haunted old man (Ciaran Hinds) decades later, unable to escape what he survived. Simon Baker, Olivia DeJonge, and Heather Mitchell appear in a layered ensemble spanning the decades.
Debuting at the Berlin International Film Festival before its streaming release, the series earned extraordinary notices, including a rare 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, for the raw intensity of its battlefield and camp sequences and the aching restraint of its love story. It stands as a landmark of recent Australian television. It is streaming on Prime Video.

Undoubtfully, cinematography has been my passion since a very young age. Even now, watching a new movie or series always prompts me to ask a lot of questions to the author. Thus, every little essay about a title is definitely not a spoiler, but rather an attempt to explore the idea.
