Carême is a lavish French-language historical drama for Apple TV+, adapted from Ian Kelly's biography Cooking for Kings and directed by Martin Bourboulon, the filmmaker behind the recent Three Musketeers epics. Reinventing the story of Marie-Antoine Carême, widely considered history's first celebrity chef, as a swashbuckling period thriller, it turns haute cuisine into a game of seduction, ambition and espionage in Napoleonic France.
Benjamin Voisin stars as the brilliant, hot-headed Carême, a baker's abandoned son who rises through the kitchens of post-Revolutionary Paris to become the most sought-after chef in Europe. His talent makes him indispensable to the cunning diplomat Talleyrand (Jérémie Renier), who presses the chef into service as a spy, using his banquets to eavesdrop on the powerful. Lyna Khoudri plays Henriette, the great love who complicates his ascent, in a cast that moves between glittering dining rooms and the dangerous intrigues of Napoleon's court.
Debuting worldwide on Apple TV+ in April 2025, Carême was a critical hit, earning glowing reviews for its sumptuous production design, its rakish energy and Voisin's charismatic lead turn, and it holds a near-perfect critics' score. A rare French-language series to break out on a global streamer, it was quickly renewed for a second season. It streams on Apple TV+.
