Jon Hamm has spoken about how the role of Andrew Cooper allowed him to explore a different register of charisma from Don Draper. Where Draper's facade conceals a trauma-driven yearning, Andrew's conceals a more straightforward comedic form of vanity and financial panic. Hamm was also an executive producer on the series.
Creator Jonathan Tropper previously wrote the novel and screenplay for This Is Where I Leave You and created the series Banshee for Cinemax, giving him a wide range across genres from broad family comedy to brutal crime drama, that he synthesizes in Your Friends and Neighbors.
The show was shot on location in actual Connecticut suburbs and New York City financial district locations, giving it a verisimilitude that the production teams worked hard to achieve. Several scenes were filmed inside real hedge-fund offices whose owners agreed to lend their spaces to the production.
