Black Rabbit is a tense, sweaty Netflix limited series created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, set in the high-pressure world of New York City fine dining. Jude Law stars as Jake Friedken, the charismatic owner of a buzzy, of-the-moment Manhattan restaurant and lounge who has finally clawed his way to success and respectability. Jason Bateman, cast sharply against type, plays his volatile, self-destructive brother Vince, whose return drags a lifetime of debts, addictions, and bad decisions back into Jake's carefully managed world.
As Vince's mounting problems with loan sharks and his own worst impulses metastasize, the two brothers are pulled into an escalating spiral of danger that threatens the restaurant, their family, and their lives. The series builds its dread patiently, using the glamorous, cutthroat restaurant setting as a pressure cooker in which loyalty and resentment become indistinguishable. Bateman, who also directs, and Law give committed, live-wire performances, and the supporting cast, including Troy Kotsur, Cleopatra Coleman, and Sope Dirisu, deepens a portrait of a world where every relationship carries a hidden invoice.
Reviewers were divided on the show's unrelenting bleakness but broadly agreed on the strength of its two leads, and it quickly became one of Netflix's most-discussed dramas of the fall. Both a fraternal tragedy and a white-knuckle crime thriller, Black Rabbit is streaming on Netflix.
