Alice in Borderland is a Japanese-language science-fiction survival thriller on Netflix, adapted from Haro Aso's manga and directed by Shinsuke Sato. Since its 2020 debut it has become one of the streamer's biggest non-English hits, combining lethal high-concept games with a mystery about the strange, depopulated version of Tokyo in which its characters are trapped.
The series follows Ryohei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), a listless young man who suddenly finds himself in an eerily empty Tokyo where survival depends on winning brutal games, each rated by playing-card suit and number. Alongside the resourceful climber Yuzuha Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya), Arisu fights to stay alive and to uncover the truth behind this deadly borderland and the price of escaping it.
The third season arrived in September 2025, extending the story beyond the point where earlier seasons had caught up with the manga, and continued the show's blockbuster-scale production and puzzle-box tension. A global phenomenon that helped prove the international appetite for Japanese live-action drama, Alice in Borderland is streaming on Netflix.
