CBS's hit "The Big Bang Theory" explores this and other mysteries of the universe, putting a lab-coated coterie of Cal-Tech scientists directly across the hall from Penny, premier Pasadena waitress and aspiring actress. "The Big Bang Thoery" proves once again that excruciating self-consciousness and social ineptitude, unfortunately, are always funny; and GED holders may derive extra satisfaction from Penny's frequent mastery of difficult situations on the strength of common sense and hard experience. In its first seasons, "The Big Bang Theory" looked frighteningly like "My Boys" minus Wrigley Field, but the characters and show have evolved, and individual actors and actresses have put their distinctive stamps on their roles. Especially Kaylee Cuoco has found the right balance between ingenuousness and homegrown girl power in her portrayal of Penny. Audiences have noticed, giving "The Big Bang Theory" their nod for a People's Choice Award in 2010. At the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, relatively unheralded, deliciously diffident Jim Parsons took home a handsome statuette for his performance as physicist Dr. Sheldon Cooper, an immensely lovable uber-nerd supreme. And in January, 2011, giving "The Big Bang Theory" the ultimate vote of confidence, CBS extended the show's contract for another three seasons.

Back for another season due to an explosion of popularity, Tosh.0 will now be seen with 25 episodes although they may be split up over the year. Tosh.0 was recently called the top cable program watched by adults from 18 to 49 years of age with some 2.4 million watching. That's quite a feat indeed for a self created show. Daniel Tosh himself is responsible for creation, production, writing scripts, and presenting the program that basically throws humorous barbs at videos seen on the internet. Episodes begin with a clip of a video seen on the internet then Tosh makes fun of the various sequences in the video followed by him posting his comments about it as others might do on sites like YouTube. He keeps on making posts until he runs out of jokes or 20 seconds, whichever comes first. Redemption is an option when Daniel Tosh invites those who's video clips he has emphasized onto the show. He also brings on musical artists he likes in what is called a web remix and invites them to perform. A wide variety of material keeps this entertaining show a must see!

Sketches are a comics best format for television and Nick Swardson has a show that's loaded with them. Each episode displays some sort of rank and raunchy humorous ingredients that will make 7th graders giggle and adults cover their heads. But along the way some of it is actually funny even if rather dark. Skits about cats in wheelchairs, snipers who masturbate, and incestual dreams involving the Nightmare on Elm Street movies are unusual fare for family television nights and when the show's main character sits and tells us about what we are about to see we begin to wonder what world this is. Nick's dead cat, Fitzgerald, is fair game for another episode as are a fatherly bucket list for a dying son, urine powered cars, and even a Gay Robot. Never one to be short on "off the wall" ideas, Nick Swardson's Pretend Time will give viewers a peek into a rather weird place, the mind of Swardson. Imagine, if you will, recovering a time capsule full of sex objects, or following Gay Robot as he buys airplane tickets to visit the alien probe site (area 51 come to mind?), or maybe learn how a forest ranger steps in to break up intimate moments between homosexuals. All this and more can be found on the Nick Swardson's Pretend Time show.

Called an American television sitcom and launched as a midseason replacement for another sitcom titled Man Up that was quickly cancelled we find that Work It simply didn't work! And it was even panned for being insulting for the transgender people out there because it was about two men dressing up as women to keep jobs during this shaky economy. This was in no way comparable to Bosom Buddies which starred Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari and ran on ABC from 1980 to 1982. Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) are unemployed and believe that women are having more luck getting jobs in this recession and decide to dress up and apply as women. Standish find a job with a pharmaceutical company but also find it to be far more difficult to be women than they previously thought. It does show that women and men are treated differently in the working world but ratings were a disaster.

The three main characters involved in "Traffic Light" apparently represent the three colors involved on a light that directs traffic. Mike (David Denman), Adam (Nelson Franklin), and Ethan (Kris Marshall) have been best friends ever since their days in college and even though they've chosen different paths in life, still remain close now that they are in their thirties. Mike might be compared to a red light because he is married, has a small son, and settled in comfortably with his life and lifestyle. Adam is then the yellow or caution light. He recently moved in with a girlfriend and is cautiously optimistic about their relationship. Ethan, a British bachelor, has no plans for future commitments and hopes to remain "footloose and fancy free" with his life. This highly entertaining sit-com is popular in part due to good writing, interesting characters, and the fact it has no irritating "laugh track" does not hurt. This show is to be appreciated for its candor between friends as they each deal with life and balancing romance and relationships.
