Good Fortune is a fantasy comedy that marks the feature directorial debut of Aziz Ansari, who also writes and co-stars. Keanu Reeves plays Gabriel, a well-meaning but low-ranking guardian angel who decides to intervene in the life of Arj (Ansari), a broke gig worker convinced that money would fix everything. To teach him a lesson, Gabriel magically swaps Arj's life with that of a wealthy, carefree venture capitalist (Seth Rogen) — a plan that goes badly, and hilariously, wrong.
When his celestial gambit backfires, Gabriel is stripped of his wings and left stranded on Earth, forcing the mismatched trio to sort out the mess together. The cast, rounded out by Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh, lets Ansari fold his observational comedy about money, class, and modern precarity into a warmhearted supernatural premise. Reeves, playing gloriously against type as a gentle, slightly clueless angel, gives the film its most unexpected comic engine.
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival before its October 2025 theatrical release from Lionsgate, Good Fortune earned generally favorable reviews and a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising Reeves's comic timing and the film's good-natured social conscience. It streams on Starz.
