5. Felix Kammerer had no prior film experience. The lead role went to theater actor Felix Kammerer, who had never appeared in a major film. Berger cast him after seeing him perform on stage in Vienna, and Kammerer's raw, unguarded quality became a central emotional asset of the film.
6. The score uses deliberately broken instruments. Composer Volker Bertelmann employed prepared and de-tuned instruments to create a score that sounds dissonant and fractured, mirroring the moral collapse at the story's heart. The score won the Academy Award for Best Original Score at the 95th Oscars.
7. Netflix paid a reported $20 million for the film. Netflix acquired international streaming rights in one of the largest deals for a non-English-language film at that time, reflecting significant platform investment in global cinema following the breakout international success of Squid Game.
