The Eternaut is Netflix's first Argentine original series and one of the most ambitious science-fiction productions ever mounted in Latin America. Directed by Bruno Stagnaro, it adapts El Eternauta, the legendary 1957 graphic novel by writer Hector German Oesterheld and artist Francisco Solano Lopez that holds near-mythic status in Argentina.
Ricardo Darin, the country's most celebrated actor, stars as Juan Salvo, an ordinary man thrust into an extraordinary nightmare when a silent, deadly snow begins falling over Buenos Aires, killing instantly anyone it touches and knocking out power across the city. As Salvo and a small band of survivors improvise makeshift protection and venture into the frozen streets, they realize the snow is only the opening move of a vast and terrifying alien invasion.
Released in 2025, the series became a global phenomenon and one of Netflix's most-watched non-English titles, praised for its craft, its scale, and the way it grounds cosmic horror in ordinary human solidarity. Its resonance is deepened by the history of its source material and its author, and a second season has been confirmed. It is streaming on Netflix.
Dubbed a combination of mystery, crime drama, and American fantasy show, Grimm comes to home (not so small) screens on Friday evenings filled with dark twists and turns including some familiar fairy tale characters from the legendary Grimm's Fairy Tales we all grew up listening to or reading. There are familiar "bad guys" such as the Big Bad Wolf and many new ones that can be equally frightening if only to the younger set. Nick Burkhardt (played by David Giuntoli from Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars) is a descendant from the Grimm line of hunters who is a homicide detective by day and fights supernatural forces on the side. Russell Hornsby (Lincoln Heights, Meet the Parents) is Hank Griffin, Burkhardt's homicide partner, and Juliette Silverton, who is Burkhardt's girlfriend is played by Bitsie Tulloch (Lakeview Terrace, Ring Tone). Eddie Monroe previously was considered to be a Big Bad Wolf but now works with Nick Burkhardt. He is played by Silas Weir Mitchell from Dexter and Monk. Don't confuse Grimm with another show that recently premiered, Once Upon A Time. Grimm will be much darker and have more of an adult theme. Through Burkhardt's eyes we see normal people turn into monsters and no one is safe anymore!
Back in 2006 word was that the popular Dr. Who character, Sarah Jane Smith was going to become a television series in Britain. Formerly a companion of the Doctor, Sarah Jane was first noticed withK-9, the robot dog. There was even a spin off to Dr. Who titled K-9 & Company but it never had much of a chance. Now the Sarah Jane Adventures has become a hit and she even brought along her K-9 companion for a few episodes. Elisabeth Sladen played Sarah Jane Smith until her death from cancer in April of 2011. She also appeared in Sidekick Stories and Dr. Who Greatest Moments. Also appearing on the program are Yasmin Paige playing Maria Jackson, Tommy Knight plays a boy called Luke, and a boy named Clyde Langer who is portrayed by Daniel Anthony. Kelsey Harper, played by Porsha Mayour is a friend of Maria's and Joseph Millson makes an appearance as Maria's father, Alan. Dr. Who fans have often voted Sarah Jane to be their most popular character and companion to the Doctor.
There are five Alphas who are dedicated to investigating and solving crimes, most of which have been perpetrated by other Alphas. The good Alphas work for the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, a branch of the Defense Department of the U.S. The basic good guys vs bad guys premise is made more interesting with the characters involved: Dr. Lee Rosen (played by David Strathairn from The Bourne Ultimatum, We Are Marshall), who studies other Alphas in order to stop their destructive tendencies. Gary Bell (played by Ryan Cartwright from TV's Mad Men & Bones) is autistic yet has certain abilities like processing info faster than any computer. Cameron Hicks (Warren Christie from Ties That Bind Us, Malibu Shark Attack) has the power of hyperkinesis which means his brain moves quickly, processing movements so he uses his eyesight to predict trajectory. Malik Yoba (Defying Gravity, That's So Raven) is Bill Harken, FBI agent with superhuman powers. Rachel Pirzad, formerly with the CIA as a linguist, finds she has abilities to heighten each of her five senses to detect things even by their chemical compound. Rachel is played by Azita Ghanizada (Castle, Friends With Benefits). Laura Mennell (Flight 93, Watchmen) plays Nina Theroux, young woman with the ability to mentally "push" or encourage people around her into doing whatever she wishes.
It is the year 2149 and all life on Earth is about to end! That is the premise of a new science fiction show developed for television with the title of Terra Nova. It seems that, in efforts to save our planet and all human beings inhabiting it scientists must develop a travel portal which allows earthlings to travel some 85 million years backwards in time. This means we must go back to prehistoric times on our planet and find there are large groups of carnivorous and huge dinosaurs roaming about hoping to make us their next meal. Jim Shannon and his wife Elisabeth along with their three children Maddy, Zoe, and Josh are among the 10th "pilgrimage" of settlers who travel to Terra Nova which as become the first human colony set up on the other side of that temporal doorway. And then they discover their neighbors happen to be those nasty dinosaurs. Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars, Marlowe) stars as Jim Shannon and his trauma surgeon wife Elisabeth is portrayed by Shelley Conn (Marchlands, Trial and Retribution). They and their three children are part of a group of new pioneers on planet Earth.
The premise of Battlestar Galactica has become an entire franchise due to the popularity of the concept. Beginning back in 1978, Glen A. Larson created an ongoing joy for sci fi lovers with his original Battlestar Galactica series that aired on TV screens everywhere. Spawning many sequels over the years, including Caprica and the latest series which began its run in 2004, humans now live on a group of distant planets called the Twelve Colonies. Wars have gone on for decades on these planets against the Cylons, a group of cybernatics who plan to wipe out the human race altogether. Cylons offer a haven of peace and security but their intentions turn out to be false and deadly. Colonial starships carry the humans away but when attacked by the Cylons, find they are not able to compete. Commander Adama (played by Edward James Olmos of Miami Vice, Stand and Deliver fame) is the leader who takes the fugitive fleet of human survivors on a hunt for the mysterious 13th colony better known as planet Earth. Fun and often exciting drama with some great special effects and a gigantic and great looking spaceship called the Battlestar Galactica.
Even though the television series Haven does not exactly read like a Stephen King novel, it is loosely based on one of his recent works called the Colorado Kid. Filmed in Nova Scotia Canada, Haven is well written with a science fiction based plot. An FBI agent, Audrey Parker portrayed by Emily Rose (Brothers & Sisters, Jericho) arrives in the sea side town of Haven, Maine working what begins as a routine case but soon develops into something more supernatural. Seems people disappear for unknown reasons. Additionally she finds her long dead mother, whom she never met, may be involved. Also starring Lucas Bryant (Dollhouse, Queer as Folk) as local cop, Nathan Wuornos, who teams up with Parker to solve some of the strange goings on in Haven. He's got problems of his own with what he calls his "idiopathic Neuropathy" which is a condition that keeps him from literally feeling anything. Eric Balfour (Hawaii, The O.C.) plays Duke Crocker, a local who seems a jack of all trades and has plenty to hide. Chief of Police in Haven is Garland Wuornos (played by Nicholas Campbell (from Diamond's, The Hitchhiker) is Nathan's father and tries to convince Audrey Parker to stay on in Haven and solve the supernatural "troubles" the residents encounter.
Is this destined to be simply another alien invasion movie that scares the daylights out of most of us? Or will it have more to offer than merely a chaotic aftermath depicting the results from heartless alien beings that want to take over this magnificent planet. This television series starts out at six months post invasion and we find the citizenry has been cut down to a few survivors who have banded together in hopes of fighting back. Citizen soldiers have been chosen in an attempt to protect those in their care and set up an insurgency campaign that will fend off the aliens. The aliens and their ships are fascinating to look at, mostly thanks to the imagination of Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, but it remains to be seen if this has much originality in the story line considering the basic idea has been redone many times. As the citizens are cruelly tested on a daily basis an ex college professor played by Noah Wyle (Librarian movies, ER) leads a group of civilians and soldiers as they strive to win against alien forces who are intent on occupying earth. Ann Glass, Drew Roy, and Maxim Knight also star.
