The Buccaneers

The Buccaneers is a lush, music-driven period drama on Apple TV+ inspired by Edith Wharton's final, unfinished novel. Created by Katherine Jakeways, it transplants a modern pop sensibility onto 1870s high society, following a group of spirited young American women who cross the Atlantic to marry into the cash-poor English aristocracy.

At its center is Nan St. George (Kristine Froseth), whose arrival in London society upends her own heart and the rigid world she enters, as friendships, marriages, and loyalties are tested by secrets and competing desires. The ensemble of young women, played by a cast including Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, and Imogen Waterhouse, navigates a glittering but merciless marriage market, while the show's needle-drop soundtrack of contemporary artists gives the corseted drama a propulsive, anachronistic charge. The second season deepens the romantic entanglements and raises the emotional stakes for its heroines.

Praised for its vibrant cast, sumptuous costumes, and knowing modern spin on the costume drama, The Buccaneers built a devoted following across its first two seasons, and Apple renewed it for a third. It is streaming on Apple TV+.
