Strange New Worlds is the first Star Trek series since Enterprise (2001–2005) to fully commit to a standalone episodic format rather than a serialized season-long arc — a structural choice explicitly requested by fans and validated by the showrunners as creatively liberating, allowing the writers' room to tell radically different kinds of stories from episode to episode without the obligation of continuous serialized plot.
