The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a 2026 animated adventure comedy from Illumination and Nintendo, distributed by Universal Pictures, and the eagerly awaited sequel to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the highest-grossing video game film ever made. It sends Nintendo's flagship characters beyond the Mushroom Kingdom and into outer space, drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy games.
Chris Pratt returns as Mario alongside the original film's ensemble, including Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. They are joined by Donald Glover as Yoshi, as the story rockets the brothers across galaxies filled with new cosmic allies and threats. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto again produces, continuing Nintendo's close creative oversight of the franchise on film.
Released in April 2026, the sequel arrived as one of the year's biggest family-film events, backed by the enormous goodwill and box-office success of its predecessor. Its move into the star-hopping worlds of the Galaxy games gave the animators a vast new visual playground, and the film continued Illumination and Nintendo's reshaping of how video game properties are brought to the screen.
