Megamind may become part of the film-schools' curriculum, because it proves two principles of animated film artisanship: First, as Roger Ebert emphasizes in his review of "Megamind," animation is "incomparably more suited for 3D than live action is." Actually the forth in this beloved series of movies about Ice Age characters who are adrift in a confusing world, they are now separated from their familiar life and find that a cataclysmic event (volcano erupts in Iceland) caused a whole continent to become detached and adrift. The seafaring trio of Manny (voice of Ray Romano), Ellie (Queen Latifah), and Sid (John Leguizamo) also along for the ride are Diego (voiced by Denis Leary) and Chris Wedge voicing for Scrat. They find themselves separated, adrift, and now forced on a seafaring quest that makes them heroes as they are challenged as never before when discovering new worlds while battling some pretty ruthless pirates (are there any other kind?). Scrat the squirrel (Chris Wedge) finds reuniting with his nut takes him to some pretty prehistoric places not fit for a squirrel. As they explore the new world they find we, the viewing audience, follow along for a fun filled experience. It's good to have these loveable guys back once again!
