Digger is a 2026 satirical black comedy directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures through Legendary Pictures and Tom Cruise's TC Productions. A co-production of the United States, United Kingdom and Mexico, it marks the first collaboration between Cruise and the four-time Academy Award winner behind Birdman and The Revenant, and casts the biggest movie star in the world against type in a corrosive comedy of ego and catastrophe.
Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a fabulously wealthy oil tycoon who, after a disaster of his own making threatens to unravel everything, races to recast himself as humanity's savior. Riz Ahmed plays Ganesh, a scientist and presidential aide; John Goodman is a dictatorial U.S. President; and Sandra Huller appears as Digger's half-sister and business partner Emma, with Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emma D'Arcy rounding out a deep ensemble. Inarritu wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborators Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and Nicolas Giacobone alongside Jez Butterworth.
Following a world premiere in London in September 2026, the film opened theatrically on October 2, shot for maximum spectacle in premium formats including IMAX and VistaVision. Reviews were polarized, with some critics dazzled by its ambition and others finding its metafictional satire overloaded, but footage shown to exhibitors earlier in the year had already made it one of the most talked-about titles of the year.
