Movie makers manage to reconstruct Elizabethan London for the filming of Anonymous, a 2011 movie filmed at Studio Babelsberg and along with some assistance from CGI (computer generated imagery) we are present for the intrigue and suspense that revolved around the succession of England's Queen Elizabeth I. Played by the talented Vanessa Redgrave (Howard's End, Letters to Juliet), who finds she has much opposition from the Essex Rebellion. It seems as though Edward de Vere, who was an incestuous lover of the Queen, may have been the true author of Shakespeare's actual works. de Vere is played by popular British actor Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 1). his controversial film offers speculation that one of the great masters of literature may not have been all he seemed. Top quality acting and a well plotted out script make this movie worth watching even if the historical value has something to desire. Period pieces are always entertaining for the backgrounds and the costumes.
